Can you run a short-let property from abroad?
Bookings can be handled from anywhere. The property cannot. The gap between the two is where most remote owners struggle.
What can be done remotely
Listing, pricing, guest messaging and booking management are all screen-based and can be done from any country. Many owners start this way, often with a local cleaner handling turnovers.
What cannot
The difficulties start on the ground. A remote owner still has to solve these, usually at short notice:
- A guest who cannot get in, or a lost key or access card
- A cleaner who cancels on a same-day turnover
- A leak, a power cut or a broken appliance during a stay
- Inspecting the property after a guest reports a problem, or after damage
- Liaising with site management, contractors and utility providers
The coordination problem
Individually these are small. Together they turn the owner into a full-time coordinator working across a time difference, relying on people who are not accountable to each other. When one link fails, the guest review reflects it.
What a local operator changes
The Mae Collection acts as the accountable point on the ground for the property, guests, cleaners, contractors and site management. The owner keeps control of the property, personal-use periods, major expenditure and long-term strategy, and receives clear reporting instead of daily messages.
You should not need to coordinate an entire operation remotely.
